Home kitchen anti-cold-and-flu tea
If you can manage to catch a cold the night before it happens in that crucial “uh oh… I think I’m getting a cold” time, this brew might just save the day.
The honey in this drink is essential as it forms a viscous coating on the throat and allows the antimicrobial action of the herbs to do their job for longer!
Otherwise, drink 3 – 6 cups every day during the cold.
Things you’ll need:
(If you don’t have all the ingredients never mind just use what you have… perhaps just ginger and chilli is to your taste).
Lemon juice (one lemon)
Lemon rind, chopped up (half a lemon)
1 stick of cinnamon, broken
2 or 3 sprigs of fresh thyme
1 teaspoon coriander seeds
2 or 3 cloves of garlic
3cm of fresh ginger root sliced
2 or 3 teaspoons of organic honey
a little chilli… depending on the strength of the chilli
Method:
In your favourite teapot or plunger, add lemon rind, cinnamon, coriander seeds, chilli, fresh thyme, cayenne, fresh ginger root and of course garlic.
Add boiling water and stand for 15 minutes then strain. Drink a cupful of this hot, every two to three hours. Then add the lemon juice and raw organic / manuka honey.
