Methylcobalamin is the biologically active form of Cobalamin (VitaminB12). It acts as a co-factor for methionine synthase in the conversion of homocysteine to methionine.
Methylcobalamin acts as a methyldonor and participates in the synthesis of SAM-e (S adenosylmethionine).
Methylcobalamin accounts for approximately 70% of the total Blood Plasma Vitamin B12 reserves.
The healthy liver converts approximately 1% of the Cyanocobalamin form of Vitamin B12 to Methylcobalamin.
