The HealthQuest Segmental Bio Impedance Analysis system helps you:

  • Gain greater understanding of your patient’s body composition in terms of total fat, total muscle, bone mass and inner health
  • Set targets for fat loss, muscle gain and desired physique and monitor your patient’s progress
  • Monitor your patient’s body composition changes over time and helps you motivate your patients for better results
  • Fine tune your weight management program

Evaluate the effect of the patient’s individually tailored diet on the body

Monitor the patient’s visceral and abdominal fat, which are risks factors for cardiovascular disease and stroke

The patient is given a healthy range that their body composition readings should fall within. The ranges vary depending on age, sex and height.

If the readings are within the correct range a green colour bar appears behind the text result. If the readings are out of range a yellow or red colour bar appears depending of just how far out of range the reading is.

Your patient’s results are measured with a state-of-the-art Tanita InnerScan Bio-Impedance Monitor.

The results are entered into the HealthQuest BIA computer program which are then interpreted and presented in a very colourful and easy to understand format. A full colour report together with detailed explanations can then be printed for the patient.

With the HealthQuest Bio-Impedance Analysis System your patient gets to see their body’s real state of health and as a result their motivation gets a great big boost!

Protein and Caloric Requirements

Ensuring the correct level of protein intake for an individual is essential for a Weight Control program to be successful in both the short and the long-term. A good level of protein intake will make sure that muscle is not lost when dieting (which slows down metabolic rate). Protein also directly helps the process of burning off fat and reducing weight. A minimum of 1.5gm of protein per kilo of lean body mass is essential for a weight loss program to be successful.

HealthQuest calculates a person’s current daily calorie intake based on their measured Basal Metabolic Rate and chosen level of activity. You can choose to apply a 10% – 15% – 20% or 25% calorie reduction and HealthQuest will then automatically calculate the reduced calorie level required for their weight loss program.

As the correct quantity of Protein, Carbohydrate and Fat in grams is automatically calculated, it is much easier for the patient to successfully follow their individually designed program.

Especially as there is also a web-link facility to over 100,000 healthy, high-quality, tasty and easy to prepare recipes that include the breakdown of a serving of a particular meal in grams of protein, carbohydrate, fat and total calories. This is an invaluable resource for both you and your patients.

You can even plan diets for Weight Gain and Weight Maintenance with the HealthQuest BIA system.

The HealthQuest BIA system makes meeting protein, carbohydrate, fat and caloric requirements easy for both you and your patients.

Progress Measurements

The HealthQuest BIA system allows you to track your patient’s progress in terms of centimeters and kilograms lost during the course of their treatment program. The program not only calculates the total cm’s and kg’s lost but also the average loss of each per week. These results are highly motivating for your patients and help spur them on to further success.

Cardiovascular and Stroke Risk Assessment

The ratios of waist to hip and waist to height measurements have been shown in scientific studies to be a very good predictors of the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke. HealthQuest does these calculations for you and presents the risk level for the patient of these ratios.

How do the Monitors Work?

The user stands on four footplates on the platform of the scale and holds the hand electrodes that are conveniently housed in the base using retractable connecting cables. The monitor will then send a safe low dual frequency electrical signal from the 8 hand and footplate electrodes through the body. The results of the resistance to the measurement (known as Bio-electrical Impedance Analysis or BIA) are then fed into a very advanced computer within the monitor to provide accurate and personalised body composition readings. This method enables the user to obtain more in-depth information regarding their body composition such as muscle mass, fat mass, visceral (abdominal) fat level, bone mass, metabolic rate and physique rating.

Validation

The current model’s Bio-Impedance measuring system and the inbuilt computer’s calculation program is based on the result of over 50,000 client tests conducted in centres throughout Japan. Its accuracy is unsurpassed by any other currently available system. Our system is highly accurate – it is the only system on the market that has been independently tested in comparison to DEXA (dual-energy x-ray absorbiometry) which is generally considered the gold standard due to its reliability and precision. The BIA monitor was found to be within 4% of DEXA’s readings. This is a great result for our low cost and very convenient system.

In comparison to other competing products, independent research has shown that as the full weight of the patient presses down on the four foot pads ensuring better contact, more accurate results are obtained than by the wrists and ankle strap contacts used by other systems. Unlike other systems, they measure the weight of the patient, visceral fat and provide bone mass readings as well. Because the patient does not have to lie down, tests can be performed very quickly in whatever spot you find convenient – no table is required.

The Price / Value of the HealthQuest BIA System is Unsurpassed

A commonly marketed system costs over $6000 – HealthQuest’s BIA is only one quarter of that price, and does so much more!

The HealthQuest Bio-Impedance Body Composition Analysis system is simply the best and lowest cost system on the market. It is definitely the next generation in healthcare.

The Tanita BIA monitor has:

Measure vital in-depth information:

  • Body fat % – Too much or not enough fat?
  • Segmental Body Fat % Measurement of each arm, each leg and trunk area
  • Body Fat Healthy Range Indicators for Adults & Children Age 5+
  • Visceral Fat Rating Visceral fat surrounds the internal organs in the stomach/trunk area of your body. Ensuring you have healthy levels of visceral fat reduces the risk of certain diseases such as heart disease and high blood pressure and delays the onset of type 2 diabetes. Monitoring your results can help you adjust your lifestyle to stay in the low risk range.
  • Total body water % – Are you drinking enough water? (Almost all people who live to a hundred report drinking a lot of water.
  • Bone mass Indicates the weight of bone mineral in the body. The development of muscle tissue has been shown to encourage stronger, healthier bones. It is important to develop and maintain healthy bones through plenty of exercise along with a range of bone building nutrients.
  • Basal Metabolic Rate Indicates the number of calories your body burns when at rest. Unlike other methods of calculating BMR, InnerScan takes the amount of muscle in your body into account, giving a more accurate picture of your dietary requirements. Your BMR will tend to decrease as you get older – you can help prevent this through a regular routine of cardiovascular exercise and increased activity.
  • Metabolism Age Your BMR starts to decrease after the age of 17 and the metabolic age rating indicates what age level your body is currently rated at. Aim to keep young!
  • Muscle Mass Calculates the weight of muscle in your body. Do you have too much or not enough muscle?
  • Segmental Muscle Mass Measurement of each arm, each leg and trunk area
  • Physique Rating Describes your overall physique or body shape by examining the balance between the amounts of body fat and muscle in your body.
  • Athlete Mode For people who do more than 10 hours a week intense exercise and who have a resting heart rate of fewer than 60 beats per minute.

Now measuring Intra Cellular & Extra Cellular Water

Intra Cellular Water (ICW)Intracellular Water is the fluid found inside cells. Usually 40% of your body weight is intracellular water.Extra Cellular Water (ECW)Extracellular Water is the body fluid found outside of cells. The healthy ratio of Extra Cellular Water and Total Body Water is around 40%. In some cases malnutrition, aging and high fat levels may cause the ratio to be higher than 40%. Athletes tend to have a lower ratio of less than 36%. Continue to monitor this ratio on a regular basis

Muscle quality

Are you as strong as you look?

When we want to see whether someone is strong, we often look at the size of their muscles. Someone who has large, bulging muscles must be able to lift a lot. However, the truth is more nuanced than that. Not only the quantity of your muscles is important, but also the muscle quality.

Two people whose muscles are equally big may therefore have different levels of strength. Even within one person there can be differences. The left leg can for example be stronger than the right one. It is important to be aware of this, as that can lead to injury.

Why does muscle quality differ?

Your muscles consist of two major types of tissue. Firstly, there is contractile tissue. As the name suggests, this contracts and produces force. The other type is non-contractile tissue. This consists of connective tissue and fat. Connective tissue keeps the muscle together, and fat provides energy. The more contractile tissue a muscle consists of, the stronger it is and the higher the muscle quality is.

As said, you need some non-contractile tissue. However, if fat levels are especially high the muscle will be less strong and muscle quality will be lower. Ageing also negatively affects the quality of your muscles in different ways.

Differences within one person

These differences in muscle quality are not only a factor between individuals. There can even be differences within one person. For example, in a runner, the left leg’s muscle might be stronger than the right. The left leg then produces more strength than the right one. That can have a negative impact on the stance of his hips and even lead to injury.

Improving your muscle quality

We know that more contractile tissue means better muscle quality. That means there are two things we can do to improve ours: making our contractile tissue stronger or decreasing the amount of non-contractile tissue. Luckily, strength training helps with both of these things. So, even if you are an avid runner, it might be a good idea to pick up some weights.

How do you measure muscle quality?

To keep your body balanced and check if you are doing well, it is smart to keep tabs on your muscle quality. In the past, this wasn’t possible without visiting a doctor. However, technology has progressed and you can now measure your muscle quality at home with the Tanita RD-953  Body Composition Monitor. Of course, it also measures everything our other Body Composition Monitors do. Once measured, it will provide a muscle quality score. You can use the following table to evaluate the result:
